Types of Summer Flower Seeds

Many people plant flowers that bloom in the spring and then end up with flowerless gardens by the summer. With both spring- and summer-blooming flowers, your flower garden or flower beds can remain colorful from early spring through late summer. Many summer flowers can easily be grown from seed.
  1. Wildflower Mixes

    • Seeding an area with wildflower seeds will usually result in a series of blooms that go from spring to late summer. Planting a seed mix optimized for your garden zone will help extend the time your wildflowers will be in bloom.

    Marigolds

    • Marigolds are a good variety of summer flowers to grow from seed. There are many types of marigolds, including ones that flower in the spring but whose blooms can extend into summer and marigolds that specifically flower in the summer.

    Asters

    • Asters are perenniasl that can be grown from seed. Aster seeds germinate easily, and the plants grow quickly. Aster blooms tend to last into mid-summer.

    Carnations

    • There are many types of carnations, including some that are annuals and some that are perennials. Growing carnations from seed is easy, and there are many varieties that flower in the summer.

    Chrysanthemums

    • Chrysanthemums can be grown from seed. The seeds germinate easily, and the flowers should bloom in early summer and last through to late summer.
