Common Landscaping Plants

Grasses

• Grasses are a common appearance in landscaped areas. They are an easy way to add height to a lawn without the density of trees. The airy plants wave in the wind to create a majestic appearance. Use smaller grasses as fillers in bare areas and edgers along walkways.
  Northern Sea Oats are a tall grass that is commonly used to conceal or cover-up central system units and other items in a yard. They grow in large, dense clumps and have seeds resembling oats.
  Pampas grass is commonly used in Southern landscaping. The eye-appeal created by their white-and-pink seed heads make them a popular choice. The grass grows up to 15 feet high. Although attractive, the leaves are sharp and can cut the skin if touched.

Trees and Shrubs

• Trees are a good choice for adding height and shade to an outdoor area. Shrubs work well to add privacy and density to a lawn. Weeping Willows are popular landscaping trees due to their magical appearance. The fast-growing tree gains leaves early in the spring and maintains them through fall. A weeping willow can grow to 50 feet tall and enjoys sunny and partially shady areas.
  The common purple lilac adds beauty to a lawn. The shrub is hardy and illuminates itself with purple, sweet-smelling blooms. A common purple lilac easily withstands cold winter conditions and nicely accents a landscape job.

Perennials

• Perennial flowers are commonly seen in landscape designs because they come back every year. As long as they remain healthy, these flowers never need replacing.
  Autumn joy perennials are perfect for landscaped areas that receive little attention. They like to be in a sunny area and thrive well without much water. The plant blooms pink in the summer and keeps its blossoms, which turn red, in the fall. Another impressive characteristics of autumn joy perennials is their resistance to disease.
  Yarrow paprika is another great perennial for landscaping. This plant can also be used in areas with full sun. The flower has a nice smell and attracts butterflies to the location. The flowering plant spreads well.
