Artificial Front Porch Plants

Not all of us can be born with green thumbs, or have enough time to nurture them. For those who get tired of droopy blooms and wilted foliage, using artificial plants can be a lifesaver, especially on such a highly visible area as a front porch. When used correctly, artificial plants can add lush color and healthy presence to an area. At the same time, they can reduce maintenance and risks associated with real plants. It's important to shop carefully when selecting artificial plants, as the wrong plant can have an adverse effect on a space.
  1. Topiaries

    • Topiaries make great artificial plants because they are relatively simple in appearance and can easily look realistic. They are also large and have a strong presence. From juniper to boxwood, topiaries are appropriate for all seasons and you won't have to move or replace them when the seasons change.

Topiaries look good in entryways and flanking doorways. These artificial plants create a warm and welcome environment in which to enter a home. Make sure the topiary you purchase is UV-resistant and won't fade in direct sunlight.

Popular types of topiaries include spiral, cone and ball topiaries.

    Ferns

    • Artificial ferns are another outdoor plant that works well on a front porch. Ferns are leafy plants that enhance the look of a porch without drawing too much attention to themselves.

Put the artificial ferns in hanging baskets or window baskets to increase their visibility and add a lush and leafy feel to your porch. Artificial ferns made from vinyl are particularly appropriate for an outdoor porch because vinyl doesn't fade much and is highly durable and weather-resistant.

    Geraniums and Gardenias

    • Geraniums and gardenias are simple flowering plants that help decorate and enliven an area without drawing too much attention to themselves. Artificial geraniums and gardenias are especially lifelike and can look stunning when potted on a front porch. Geraniums and gardenias have large non-flowering areas and act a lot like bushes when it comes to filling in space with green and leafy foliage.

When selecting blooming flowers such as geraniums and gardenias, remember to look for UV-resistant materials that won't fade in sunlight.
