Small Evergreen Landscaping Plants

Evergreen trees and shrubs change the look and feel of a landscape, because these plants are remain green all year and grow into certain shapes. Many evergreens have different growth patterns such as globe, spreading, cone or pyramid. You can also prune evergreen shrubs into more distinct shapes to resemble animals or other designs. Plant different variations of evergreens throughout your yard for a variety of shapes.
  1. Gardenia

    • Gardenia shrubs are evergreens that blossom large, white, fragrant flowers throughout the spring and summer months. The foliage is green with pointed tips. Gardenias enjoy moist, well-drained soil and a variation of full sun and partial shade. These plants can reach heights of up to 20 feet tall depending on the species, and should be pruned to reach your desired height and shape.

    Little Heath Lily of the Valley

    • Little Heath Lily of the Valley is a small evergreen shrub that can grow up to four feet tall and wide. The foliage is green with golden edges, with the leaves sometimes changing to bronze. This shrub grows slowly so less pruning is needed. This dwarf shrub enjoys well-drained soil and full sun. Tiny white bell shaped flowers bloom in the late winter or early spring.

    Boxwood

    • The boxwood evergreen shrub is a hardy evergreen that is easy to sculpt into various shapes. The foliage is forest green, and the leaves are small and oval-shaped. Boxwood shrubs need a variation of of full sun and partial shade throughout the day. Continual pruning throughout the year is necessary to keep these shrubs under control because they can grow up to 15 feet tall. Boxwood shrubs can be planted along the border of a property as a privacy fence.
