Fake Plants for Outdoor Pool Landscaping

Fresh, real flowers are often the first choice for most landscapes. However, not everyone has the type of lifestyle with free time for pruning, weeding, changing soil, watering and other tasks that natural plants require. Furthermore, for landscapes that have a pool, the chlorinated water can easily ruin natural plants. Luckily, an array of artificial plants abound that are more practical for pools.
  1. Faux Impatiens

    • Impatiens are colorful flowers that grow thickly and easily, growing around 6 to 8 inches high. While they do make a lovely border for pools, they are somewhat impractical as their leaves and petals tend to fall and shed, which can easily make a mess of the surrounding area of the pool, not to mention cause leaves and other debris to fall into the pool. They also tend to flourish more profusely in the shade. Luckily, with artificial impatiens, you don't have to worry about the plants sitting in direct sunlight or shedding their foliage.

    Faux Lilypads

    • Lilypads are plants that appear to float magically on the surface of the water; however, in reality they attach to stems hidden beneath the water's surface. Real lily pads couldn't exist in the chemical soup of a residential pool and would die immediately. Furthermore, their stems would tangle between the legs of swimmers. Plus, to breathe, the surface of lily pads needs to stay dry at all times. However, faux lily pads solve all these issues immediately. Namely, they give your pool a new aesthetic look of a naturally occurring body of water rather than a chlorinated hole, and they do not become affected by water or chemicals.

    Faux Honeysuckle Bushes

    • Honeysuckle bushes are bright green shrubs that you can sculpt and trim to the desired shape, which makes them an appropriate hedge. You can grow them extremely high if you'd like to use them for a greater level of privacy. However, honeysuckle shrubs do attract aphids and other insects which drain the sap from the leaves and can potentially kill the bushes. Artificial honeysuckle shrubs ensure that insects and other pests are a complete non-issue, particularly in a place where you wouldn't want them -- around a pool. You simply buy them at the height you want, and never worry about keeping them trimmed.
