How to Assemble a Tree Pruner

A tree pruner or pruning saw is one of the most used tools in a gardener's tool shed. Pruners are able to reach high branches and twigs without the use of ladders. Because almost all trees need pruning each year, gardeners can remove damaged and diseased portions of the plant with the ease of pruner. To keep the tree pruner from rusting, it is important to disassemble it when storing to prevent the blade from coming into contact with moisture.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the protective sheath over the blades of the tree pruner. Keep the blades in a safe place away from children and always wipe them off with a rag after use.

    • 2

Wrap the blades with a towel. Press the blade into the tree pruner at the top until you hear a click that indicates that it has locked into place.

    • 3

Thread a string through the eye of the top of the blade and make a knot. The string helps you keep the blade close to where you are cutting. It works by you pulling down after you have found the right spot and set the blade at a 45-degree downward angle. As you pull down on the string, it keeps the blade in that position.

Lift your pruner to the tree branch. If you can't reach, screw in pruning extensions in the body of the tree pruner. Oftentimes, tree pruners will come with a set of extensions for getting high up in the tree.
