Tape along the edges of the ceiling, baseboard, electrical outlets and any other areas on which you don't want to paint.
Paint two to three coats of the base color. This color should be a few shades lighter than the top glaze paint's color. Use paint rollers for the quickest application, relying on brushes for edging. Allow paint to dry between each coat.
Mix one part paint to four parts painting glaze or water in an empty paint can. To start, you'll only work on 2-foot sections of wall at a time.
While the glaze is still wet, gently roll rags across the wall's surface. Doing so will remove excess paint, allowing the undercoat of paint to show through and creating a textured, leather look. Move onto the next 2-foot section and repeat these steps. Allow this coat to dry for 24 hours and apply a shellac coat, if water protection is needed.
