Measure the length and width of the ground with the tape measure and multiply these two numbers together to find the area. If your space has rounded edges, square the edges and multiply the length by the width -- the extra area will give you additional pavers for cutting to create the rounded edges.
Add 5 to 10 percent to the area to provide extra pavers for cutting. This step in not necessary if you squared rounded edges in the previous step.
Check to see if the manufacturer provided information about the paver coverage. For example, if a particular paver will take three pavers for every square foot, you can easily determine how many pavers you need by multiplying three by the square footage of the area.
Measure an individual paver if you do not have the manufacturer information from the previous step. Multiply the length by the width to determine the area of the paver in inches.
Convert the area of the ground to inches by multiplying the square foot number by 144. This is the project area in square inches.
Divide the project area in inches by the individual paver area in inches to find the number of pavers you require for your project.
