Measure the area you want for the sitting area, then dig out the dirt. Use a laser level to ensure the dug-out area is level. If necessary, use sand to help level the area.
Place landscaping cloth atop the dirt to cover the area. This prevents weeds and grass from growing between the pavers.
Lay the pavers on the seating area in the pattern you desire. If you're not using edging stones, use wood as a frame for the patio and remove it when you're done. This helps keep pavers in place. If necessary, use a utility knife to cut away any excess landscaping cloth.
Use a broom to sweep sand in between the pavers and mist lightly with water. Let dry. Repeat until the sand is level with the top of the pavers. Do this annually or whenever the level of the sand is lower. This helps increase the stability of your patio and also prevents weeds from growing between the pavers.
