How to Maintain Pea Gravel Around a Pool

Pea gravel can be an attractive accent around an outdoor pool. It can also be a nuisance in that it can spill into walkways and the pool while looking unkempt. There are several easy steps that you can incorporate to your outdoor landscaping maintenance plan to address pea gravel around your pool.

Instructions

Pick up the loose pea gravel around and in the pool on a regular basis. Keeping up with it will diminish the amount of mess you have to deal with. Use a broom to sweep up the pieces or pay your child with small hands to walk around and pick up the small pieces. If it becomes a huge problem, consider installing a border around the perimeter of the pea gravel.

Remove all of the leaves, twigs and debris from the pea gravel on a regular basis. Keeping up with it will diminish the amount of debris you need to pick up. Remind yourself to do this after it rains or after a windy day. Again, it may be easier for a child with small hands to handle this job.

Rinse the pea gravel down when needed. If the pea gravel looks dingy and dusty, take a hose and spray it with water. If you have a hose attachment for soap, use that on your pea gravel. Just be sure to rinse the soap off the pea gravel.

Inspect the pea gravel amount each year to see if there are any places where more gravel is needed. Add pea gravel to any spots that seem to be lacking material.
