How to Work a Solar Stake Light

Solar stake lights are a cheap way to give your yard or garden a bit of flare. They are easy to install, and require almost no maintenance. These lights use energy from the sun, to charge their batteries: Then they turn on at dusk. On sunny days, solar stake lights will remain lit all night long. On cloudy days, they will only stay lit for a few hours.

    • 1

Select an area of your yard, where you wish to install your solar stake light. For your lights to work most effectively, this area should receive at least three hours of sunlight each day.

    • 2

Screw the top of the light onto the stake post, if needed. Some solar lights will come pre-assembled.

    • 3

Lay the lights out on the ground, in the desired pattern, to get an idea how they will look when they are installed. Move them around, until you like what you see.

    • 4

Install the solar stake lights by pushing the pointed end of each stake into the ground. The stake should be about 4 to 5 inches below ground. When installing the light, do not push on the light fixture itself: Instead, grasp the post with both hands.
