Rain Bird DIY

Rain Bird isn't just a single sprinkler system. Rather, it is the name of the corporation that manufactures several types of widely used sprinkler heads. Fortunately all Rain Bird irrigation systems are installed in essentially the same way, so once you know how to install a single Rain Bird sprinkler head, it's a safe bet you can install any Rain Bird sprinkler head.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Rain Bird sprinkler system's water valve so you do not get blasted in the face with a water jet when you begin to work on a sprinkler head.

    • 2

Dig up the area around the pipe you wish to attach the Rain Bird sprinkler head onto. If there is an existing sprinkler head on the pipe, remove it now.

    • 3

Turn on the water and allow it to run for several seconds. This will cause a jet of water to come out of the pipe, effectively flushing out any dirt or debris that might have otherwise clogged your sprinkler.

    • 4

Attach PVC risers to the pipe, or remove PVC risers from the pipe, as needed to bring the Rain Bird sprinkler to the optimal height relative to the ground. Different types of sprinklers will need to be placed at different heights in the ground to gain optimal coverage.

    • 5

Screw the Rain Bird sprinkler head onto the pipe riser, then fill in the hole you dug in Step 2. Test your new sprinkler by turning on the water and letting it run for a minute or two.
