How to Paint Pavers

Patio and landscape pavers are made from a variety of both natural and manufactured stone materials. Although a newly paved patio or walkway looks good when first installed, the pavers can become dingy over time. One way to spruce up unattractive pavers is to paint them. The key is to apply paint that can endure the outdoor elements.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of water and 6 to 7 tbsp. of bleach.

    • 2

Pour the bleach solution onto the pavers and scrub it in with a stiff-bristled push broom. Concentrate on any grease spots or heavily stained areas.

    • 3

Rinse off the pavers using a garden hose to remove all of the bleach residue.

    • 4

Allow the pavers to dry completely for at least one to two days.

    • 5

Pour a paint designated for use on concrete into a paint tray. Insert a long-handled paint roller into the paint and apply it onto the surface of the pavers with long, even strokes. Continue until all of the pavers are covered in paint.

    • 6

Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours. Examine the surface to see if bare spots are present. If so, apply an additional layer of paint to the pavers and allow it to dry for another 24 hours.

    • 7

Pour a stone sealer into a fresh paint tray. Apply a single coat of the sealer to the surface of the pavers to protect the paint.
