Pick up any large items in the yard such as children's toys or lawn tools and put them away in their rightful places on a daily basis.
Store tools and other items normally found or used on the lawn in the garage or a storage shed so they're close enough to the lawn to be regularly used and put away again without much fuss.
Rake the yard once a week to remove accumulated leaves, small branches and dead grass. Rake the debris into piles. A leaf blower can also be useful for large quantities of leaves.
Remove the debris piles with a shovel and dump them into trash bags or trash cans for pickup. You can also put them in your compost pile.
Pick up any pet waste in the yard daily to prevent it from building up since it clutters the yard while also attracting insects and other vermin.
Cover wood or compost piles with a tarp to help prevent dirt or debris from them blowing into the yard. Covering up compost and garbage piles also improves the overall appearance of the yard. Remove the cover from a compost pile if it is about to rain since the natural moisture will assist the compost pile in decomposing.
Mow your lawn every two weeks or so to keep the growth under control and also help prevent the growth and spread of weeds.
