How to Make Sand Dump Out of a Trailer

A dump trailer used to haul and dump sand wears over time. The texture of the sand cuts scratches and grooves into the trailer bed surface. The scratches and grooves absorb moisture and rust begins to form, and the rough texture of the trailer floor causes the sand to stick during the dumping process. You can prevent sand from sticking by applying a coat of wax, resurfacing the trailer floor or purchasing a plastic or spray-in liner to obtain a smooth, slick surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the bed of the dump trailer. Hose down the interior of the trailer bed. Remove all debris.

    • 2

Wet sand the floor of the trailer bed to remove rough areas. Allow the trailer bed to dry before continuing. This may take up to several hours depending on the weather conditions.

    • 3

Fill the hand sprayer with liquid wax.

    • 4

Spray a generous layer of liquid wax over the front 2 feet of the dump trailer floor. Polish the surface of the wax with an orbital buffer. Repeat the process until the entire bed surface is complete.
