Do it Yourself Water Features & Fountains

Garden ponds make for excellent decorative, and also functional, features in any garden. They are inherently still, however, and although they look good on their own, there is still a way to further develop them. With the addition of a custom-built water feature, any garden pond can be transformed into a more active decoration that will add an extra level of activity and decoration to any garden. By learning how to create water features for a garden pond, you can not only decorate your pond but do so in a way that is unique to you.

Instructions

    • 1

Line the ceramic pan with the pond liner. Flatten the liner out, removing all the creases and ensuring the liner fits as well as possible. Trim the portions of the liner that stick out from the pan using the scissors, then trim the liner down so it stops a quarter inch below the rim of the bowl.

    • 2

Attach the hose pipe to the nozzle on the water pump. Place the pump in the bottom of the ceramic pan with the nozzle pointing toward the back of the pan; or where the back of the water feature will be once it is completed. Put a brick on either side of the pump to hold it in place, with the top of each brick sitting higher than the top of the pump.

Fill the ceramic bowl with water up to the top of the pond liner. Feed the end of the hose through the plastic grille. Place the grille in the bowl on top of the bricks. Drill a hole in the bottom of the the width of the hose. Thread the hose through the hole. Place the two small bowls in the ceramic bowl. Place the urn on top of the bowls. Turn on the pump.
