Instructions

    • 1

Lay two posts down parallel to each other. Place a rail into the slots between two posts as it would be when it is finished. Use a square to ensure that the rail is at a right angle to both posts. Measure the distance between the center of one post and the center of the other. This gives you the spacing for the posts on center. Dig all the holes for the fence line so the length between the center of the holes measure to this distance.

    • 2

Start at the beginning of the fence line and tap in the first stake. Measure out from the first stake to the distance determined in step 1 and place the second stake, indicating the center of each post hole. Repeat this for every fence post hole needed. Wrap twine around the stakes and run it between them to show a straight line. Adjust the stakes until you see a straight line if it isn't quite lining up.

    • 3

Dig holes just outside the stakes so that you can use the stake as a reference point for the center. Dig down to 1/3 the length of the post plus 6 inches.

    • 4

Fill the holes with 6 inches of crushed gravel and pack it down. This will keep water away from the base.

    • 5

Straighten the posts so they are vertical. Tie four strings of twine around the top end of the posts and tie the other ends to stakes. Push the stakes into the ground at four points to secure the post upright.

    • 6

Mix cement with water to make concrete as directed on the package. Use a wheelbarrow so that you can easily transport it. Pour concrete into each hole and let it dry for two days.

    • 7

      Remove the stakes and twine.

    • 8

Slide the rails into the slots of the posts to complete the fence sections between the posts.
