Apply a liberal coating of bonding agent to the surface you will be stuccoing. Use a brush to even the coat and ensure maximum coverage. Wait for the bonding agent to dry before applying any stucco. It should take around half an hour to dry completely.
Apply a base coat of stucco in wide swaths directly to the bonding agent using a trowel. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
Gouge horizontal marks into the surface of the base coat with your plastering rake, after allowing the base coat to dry for about 20 minutes. Allow the base coat to dry for a full day after making the scratches.
Apply a finish coat on top of the face coat using your trowel. The scratches in the base coat will allow the finish coat to embed firmly into the texture of the wall. The thickness of the finish coat is up to personal preference, but should not exceed 1/2 inch. If the finish coat is too thick, it may warp or slide during the drying process. Allow the finish coat to dry for a few days to finalize the process.
