How to Use Scotts Deep Brown Mulch

Aside from approving the appearance of landscaping around the home, mulch added to your plants is beneficial for a variety of reasons. Mulch reduces the amount of weeds that germinate in planters or landscapes, eliminating the need for harmful herbicides. It also regulates soil temperature and moisture, meaning less water will be required during warmer, dry weather. Scotts deep brown mulch is simple to use and complements any landscape.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine how many bags of deep brown mulch will be needed to cover the desired area. One bag, which contains 2 cubic feet, will cover 12 square feet at a 2-inch depth, 8 square feet at a 3-inch depth and 6 square feet at a 4-inch depth, according to Scotts.

    • 2

Spread the mulch around established plants or trees at an average depth of 3 inches. Avoid spreading the mulch on areas where garden or plant seeds have not germinated or around plants that aren't established.

    • 3

Ensure the mulch is at least 3 to 4 inches from the home's foundation and wood, including tree trunks.

    • 4

Moisten the mulch with the misting attachment on the hose. The mulch absorbs and distributes water, reducing weekly maintenance.
