Sonar Aquatic Herbicide Directions

Sonar A.S. aquatic herbicide is manufactured by the SePRO company. Sonar is utilized in the eradication of submerged vascular aquatic vegetation in slow-moving bodies of water. Sonar herbicide is absorbed into the roots and shoots of aquatic plants and, for this reason, must remain in contact with target aquatic vegetation for at least 45 days. Its effectiveness is therefore reduced in fast-moving bodies of water. Sonar's ability to inhibit the formation of carotene results in white or pink spots on vegetation within seven to 10 days. Effective plant management will take 30 to 90 days, according to the manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear protective clothing. This should include long sleeves and pants, socks and closed-toe shoes. Wear eye protection and chemical-resistant gloves. Wear a respirator to prevent inhalation of vapors.

    • 2

Apply Sonar herbicide at a rate of no more than 90 ppb (parts per billion) for ponds and 150 ppb. for lakes. Fill the spray tank halfway with water. For each square foot of water in a pond, measure 0.12 to 0.24 qts. (or 3.8 to 7.7 fl. oz). Add it to the spray tank. Use the higher concentrations for mature plants or where infestation is acute. Fill the rest of the tank with water and mix well. Set the sprayer to a volume of 5 to 100 gallons per acre. Continue to agitate the mixture while spraying to prevent separation.

    • 3

Use higher concentrations when spraying lakes or large reservoirs. Fill half the spray tank with water and measure 0.03 to 0.24 qts. (1.0 to 7.7 fl. oz.). Fill the rest of the tank with water and mix well. Set the sprayer to a volume of 5 to 100 gallons per acre. Continue to agitate the mixture to prevent separation.
