How Do I Trap Mealy Moths?

Meal moths lay their eggs in dry places with easy access to a food source. This leads to infestations of meal moths and their larvae in cereal boxes, containers of nuts, sources of grain or dry fruit. The best preventative measure is to keep all food sealed tightly. Once the infestation occurs, traps are available to help remove them from your kitchen.

Locate the source of the infestation. This is typically found in your pantry. Cereals, grains or dry dog foods are the best places to start looking.

    • 2

Purchase a pheromone based trap. Pheromones are natural compounds that the insects use to communicate. These pheromones will lure the moths to the traps.

Lay your traps near the infested areas. Approximately one of every eight moths that approaches the trap will enter it, according to Ohio State University
