How to Landscape With Creeping Fig

Out of the variety of vine plants, creeping fig is commonly used to landscape many areas of the yard. Whether you want the vine to grow up the wall of your home or plan to use it as groundcover near the garden, creeping fig complements the overall landscaping layout. If you're limited in a landscaping budget, creeping fig has the ability to give you more "bang for your buck" because its tendrils cover a large area, reducing your need for other plants and shrubs around the home or landscape.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover walls surrounding the property with creeping fig. Plant quart-sized containers of creeping fig along the base of the wall, spaced 2 to 3 feet apart. Small disks on the backside of the tendrils will stick to the wall and eventually cover the entire space.

    • 2

Place creeping fig plants on either side of the front door to cover the entryway with lush greenery. After they've grown, trim the creeping figs with scissors or pruning shears into any shape you wish, including circles, rectangles or arches.

    • 3

Fill in large flowerbeds with creeping fig, or use it as a border to garden areas or property lines. Trim the vine regularly to prevent it from invading other plants and root systems.

    • 4

Create an appealing display with the vines. Plant a creeping fig plant on either side of an arbor in the garden to eventually cover in the thick vine, or use the plant to cover wire topiary shapes to place around the yard. Trim the fig as necessary to retain the desired shape.
