Identify your climate and choose appropriate yard features. If you in a humid climate, don't plant more than 10 different types of plants or flowers in a garden, as this attracts mold and fungus. Choose plants and flowers already found in your climate, since they're used to the living conditions and do not require any special care.
The most attractive landscaped yards require the most time and maintenance. Don't plant the prettiest flowers if you don't have the time to water them and pick weeds frequently. Be practical when looking for carefree landscaping materials. Consider if the plant comes back every year, if the it survives cold weather or frost, and how much time your yard need for upkeep. If you don't want to replace flowers each year, plant perennials, as they will grow back each year.
Shrubs are a suitable, low-maintenance addition to any yard. They come in all different shapes, colors and aromas. Shrubs don't require frequent watering. If you don't have the time to care for shrubs, flowers or other plants, use rocks and other natural materials in your landscaping. Rock or brick pathways, stepping stones, small man-made ponds, benches and wood lattice structures for morning glories or other climbing flowers are extremely low-maintenance. Simply install them, sweep them and trim grass around them when doing routine yard work.
