How to Landscape With Ceramic Jars

If you have a collection of ceramic jars and pots, you can use them as pots for your plants or as whimsical garden decorations. Keep in mind that you will want to use ceramic jars that have holes in the bottom of them if you want to plant flowers or plants in them because the hole will help to ensure water can escape and the roots of your plants do not rot.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a variety of ceramic jars -- such as a teapot, a cookie jar, a sugar canister and a creamer -- in the corner or center of your garden bed. If these are jars that have been made to look like functional jars but have holes in the bottom of them, fill them with soil and small flowers such as violets.

Fill large or jumbo ceramic pots with a variety of herbs or flowers. Think of these jumbo containers as an herb or flower sampler. You can plant like herbs -- such as oregano, parsley and basil -- in one pot. You can plant marigolds or pansies of different colors in another. Nestle the jumbo ceramic planters in a corner of your garden bed.

Line up a variety of ceramic jars in different colors along a stone wall in your yard for a whimsical decoration.

Purchase a set of ceramic jars with chalkboard nameplates on them. Write the contents of the jar on the nameplate with a piece of chalk. For example, you can nestle a jar that reads "Chalk" under the tree by your sidewalk for neighborhood children to access. You can nestle a jar labeled "Bird Cuisine" or "Squirrel Happy Hour" in your garden bed so that little garden creatures have access to a snack. Be creative.
