Instructions

Draw a rough sketch of your fence and the design that you have in mind. Make a list of all the materials that you will need to complete the project.

    • 2

Plant climbing flowers next to your fence that will use the fence as a trellis. Good choices are morning glories, ivy and clematis. Most climbing flowers are fast growers so it will not take long to cover the fence. Dig a hole the size of the nursery pot about four to six inches from the fence. Place the plant in the hole and cover with native soil. Water the flowers with two to three inches of water every other day. Add two inches of mulch at the base of the plant. As the plants grow, weave them through the fence.

Plant landscaping trees approximately a foot inside the fence line. Good choices are junipers and cypress trees. They have thick foliage that helps hide the fence line and create a more natural border.

    • 4

Add solar post caps to the top of your fence to illuminate your border at night. The caps slip right on top of fence posts and gather energy from the sun during the day to provide light at night. Choose from a wide variety of styles and colors to blend well with your landscaping.

Install a pool, pond or waterfall near the fence line. The water will take the focus off the fence and provide you with a new focal point.

Paint your fence to match your backyard decor. Painting will change the look of your fence and make it a part of your landscaping.
