How to Build a Basic Firepit

Fire pits are an essential ingredient to a camp out or grill out. Fire pits become the place where the party focuses on as the sun goes down and the tales and laughter continue. Although they may seem difficult to build, you can construct your basic fire pit with a few simple tools and materials. Depending on the size, you can have the fire roaring within an hour after beginning construction.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a safe spot for the fire pit. It needs to be far away from any structure, vegetation or automobiles.

    • 2

Put your stones down in a circle. Envision them as the wall of the round fire pit that you are about to dig. Use the circumference of the circle that you just made with the stone to guide you in determining the size of the hole. Remember, the more stone you have, the larger your fire pit can be.

    • 3

Dig your fire pit hole. Dig until the top of the stone is at the same level or below the ground. Make the floor of the hole flat. Place a thin layer of sand around the hole that you just made. Sand helps contain fire.

    • 4

Place the stone around the perimeter of the fire pit. Do not place stone on the floor of the fire pit, since that is where you will put the wood you are going to burn.

    • 5

Put the wood in the fire pit center. Ignite it. When you are finished using your fire pit, make sure that all of the wood is cooled off.
