How to Install Pea Gravel Around the Foundation of a Mobile Home

Pea gravel around the foundation of your mobile home is both decorative and functional. The small pieces of gravel, also known as pea stone, provides a decorative flooring surface while allowing moisture from rain and snow to drain easily. Since most mobile homes don't come with a large yard, landscaping options can be limited. A pea gravel floor around the foundation of your home can give your outdoor space an attractive, finished appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area around your mobile home foundation you wish to cover with pea gravel.

    • 2

Mark off the area by driving wooden stakes into the perimeter with a hammer at intervals of approximately 3 to 4 feet. Connect the stakes with twine to designate the area in which you want to install the pea gravel floor.

    • 3

Dig down 4 inches in the roped-off area with your shovel. Remove soil and any rocks or debris you encounter.

    • 4

Cut black landscaping plastic with scissors to fit the area in which you'll be installing the pea gravel floor. Lay each piece on the dirt foundation to prevent weeds and grass from growing through the pea gravel. Overlap each piece by 2 feet and extend the ends approximately 6 inches beyond the edges of your work area.

    • 5

Install the edging you intend to use with your pea gravel floor along the entire perimeter of the area. Trim the excess black landscaping plastic so it's not sticking out between the edging and the grass.

    • 6

Use a wheelbarrow and your shovel to pour pea gravel over the area in which you want to install the pea gravel floor. Spread the pea gravel with a rake to make the surface even.
