Mark off the area where you want your raised flower bed to be located using garden posts. Place them every 12 inches and then connect them using twine in order to clearly outline the area.
Measure the length and width of your bed using your tape measure in order to determine how many concrete building blocks you need to complete your project. While cinder blocks come in varying sizes, the average block is 10 inches. You must provide a depth of four cinder blocks all the way around your raised bed in order to get the proper height.
Dig a 10-inch trench all the way around the area you marked off for your garden. Fill the trench 8 inches full of gravel.
Place cinder blocks on top of the gravel all the way around the perimeter of the raised flower bed. Next, stack the cinder blocks until you have a depth of four blocks all the way around.
Stack additional cinder blocks inside the garden bed if you want to use them to mark off portions of the garden bed reserved for different crops, such as tomatoes, green peppers or cucumbers.
Fill the raised bed with garden soil, leaving two inches of free space at the top in order to account for the space the plants will take up as they grow.
Plant seeds or seedlings according to package directions and water well. The concrete blocks will help to hold moisture so that you do not have to water your garden as frequently.
