Outdoor Xeriscape Plants

With today's developing environmental consciousness, Xeriscaping has grown in popularity. A Xeric landscape is designed to use less water than a traditional landscape. Plants are chosen for their drought-resistance and are often native, surviving only on natural rainfall.
  1. Russian Sage

    • A woody shrub, Russian sage produces spiky blue flowers through the summer and into fall. It thrives in sandy soils and full sun. This perennial grows to 4 feet tall and wide.

    Apricot Queen New Zealand Flax

    • Growing to 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide, this perennial thrives in full sun. New Zealand flax has beautiful green to pale yellow foliage and red flowers in the summer.

    Desert Willow

    • Trees can grow in a Xeric landscape. The desert willow thrives in low water conditions and full sun. Growing to 20 feet tall, this tree produces white, purple or pink flowers in the summer.

    Nasturtium

    • One of the flowering annuals that thrives in a xeriscaped garden, nasturtium grows to 10 inches tall with a vining habit. Large orange or yellow flowers bloom over round leaves in full or partial sun. It self seeds and left alone, will replant itself year after year.

    California Poppy

    • The blue-green foliage and brilliant orange flowers of this annual have made the California poppy popular with Xeric landscapers. Growing to 12 inches tall, this poppy blooms from spring into fall in full sun and will self-sow.
