Instructions

    • 1

Make a garden plan by considering what types of flowers or vegetables you will be planting and the amount of sun they will require. Determine an appropriate place for the garden and mark the space in a 4-by-6-foot rectangle using measuring tape, stakes and string.

    • 2

Remove the top 1- to 2-inch layer of soil within the marked area with the shovel. Keep the cleared area as even as possible to provide a level area on which to build the garden frame. Remove string from stakes, leaving the stakes in place.

    • 3

Construct the first layer of the garden frame by setting corner anchor joints in place of the garden stakes. Drive the anchor joints firmly into the ground using the rubber mallet if necessary.

    • 4

Set 4-foot cedar sections into corner anchor joints on both short sides of the garden area. Set 6-foot cedar sections in the anchor joints on the long sides. This forms the bottom layer of the garden frame.

    • 5

Insert the four remaining corner anchor joints in the joints of the first layer of garden frame. Place remaining cedar planks into the corner anchor joints to form the top layer of the frame.

    • 6

Using a shovel, fill the garden frame with dirt/compost mix until it reaches 1-2 inches from the top of the frame. Approximately .75 cubic yards of soil will be needed for this 4-by-6 garden.

    • 7

Plant flowers or vegetables as desired.
