How to Construct a PVC Greenhouse

Making a mini PVC greenhouse is an easy way to save time and money; traditional greenhouses are too expensive for many gardeners, and a PVC greenhouse is reusable, inexpensive and easy to build. Making a greenhouse using PVC pipes takes only an hour or two, but the structure will last for many growing seasons. If you want to extend the growing season of your plants without spending a lot of money, you can build a PVC greenhouse in the space of an afternoon.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out an area that is 3 feet by 6 feet. Hammer in one rebar stake at each corner, and two more evenly spaced along each of the 6-foot sides. This creates a basic frame for your PVC greenhouse. The rebar stakes also help hold the PVC pipes in place.

    • 2

Put a 3-foot PVC pipe over each of the eight rebar stakes and place the PVC connector caps on top of each one. These caps will allow the greenhouse arches to be connected to the 3-foot pipes, as well as connect side and cross pieces to hold the structure in place.

    • 3

Attach the 2-foot PVC pipes to the connector caps between each section of standing PVC pipes along the 6-foot sides of the rectangle. Each open section along the 6-foot sides should be filled with a PVC pipe.

    • 4

Attach the remaining 3-foot PVC pipes across the width of the PVC structure to help add extra stability. All four open spaces between the standing PVC pipes should be filled to help keep the greenhouse standing sturdily.

    • 5

Bend and attach each of the 4-foot PVC pipes to the structure at the top of each pipe along the 6-foot sides of the greenhouse structure. The PVC pipe connectors should have one remaining open slot for the arches, which help rainwater run off of the greenhouse.

    • 6

Cover the PVC greenhouse with clear plastic sheeting. The plastic will allow sunlight in and trap the heat, extending the growing season of your garden plants. Leave 6 to 8 extra inches of material along the 6-foot sides of the greenhouse.

    • 7

Place bricks on the extra plastic sheeting along the sides of the greenhouse. These will keep the plastic sheets pulled tightly over the greenhouse and prevent it from sliding off or blowing away.
