Parts for Making Floating Ball Fountains

Floating ball fountains are some of the most elegant backyard fixtures you can ever come across. You can make your own floating ball fountain easily if you have the right parts. A few parts for making a floating ball fountain might be hard to come by but with visits to your local hardware or landscaping store you can most certainly get all of the parts you need.
  1. Tall Pot

    • The tall pot supports your bowl and sphere. It can be made of ceramic, metal or terra cotta. Epoxy glue will bind the tall pot to the bowl. You should have an electrical outlet near the tall pot for ease in connection. The tall pot should be filled most of the way with gravel and surrounded by more gravel to hold it stable. Make sure when you are feeding the water pump and fountain through the tall pot and the bowl that the holes you are using are wider than the tubing.

    Bowl

    • The bowl is what holds your sphere. The bowl should be made of ceramic, metal or terra cotta. The bowl should be slightly larger than the sphere to allow for the smooth rolling of the sphere. The water pump and fountain will be at the bottom of the bowl where it can easily push the water up and make the sphere move. Filling the bowl with smooth rocks or marbles helps in the decoration. Drainage is a key to the proper functioning of the bowl. Keeping the electrical cord away from the bowl is also important to avoid any accidental electrocution.

    Sphere

    • The center piece of your masterpiece, the sphere, is what keeps the neighbors talking. Like the tall pot and the bowl, you can make your sphere out of ceramic, metal or terra cotta. You should keep your tall pot, bowl and sphere all the same kind of material to keep things even and aesthetically symmetrical. Some spheres will already have holes in the top and/or the bottom. If they do not have their own holes you will need to drill your own. Drill them in directly opposite one another.
