How to Install Masonry Landscape Edging

Landscape edging creates a physical barrier between flower beds and your lawn, keeping mulch and stones from spilling over into the lawn. Edging also provides a visual barrier, creating a solid line between two areas so both are more distinct visually. You can purchase masonry edging at a landscape center or home improvement center, and the installation is quick and easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a size and shape for your border--masonry edging is available in a wide range of sizes and colors. Measure the space to calculate the amount of edging needed.

    • 2

Dig a trench 2 to 4 inches below ground with a shovel in the area where you will install edging. Place edging material below ground to stabilize it while leaving enough above ground to be visually appealing.

    • 3

Place the masonry into the trench. Set the stones side by side all the way around the garden. Backfill any space in the trench that is not completely filled by the masonry.
