Place the container of caulk in the caulking gun with the tip facing upward.
Trim off the very tip of the caulk container's nozzle, at an angle, with a pair of scissors. The smaller the opening, the easier it will be to control the amount of caulk released.
Insert the pointed edge of a long nail or the piercing tool on your caulking gun into the caulk container's nozzle to pierce the inner seal.
Hold the caulking gun at a 45-degree angle with the tip downward. Draw a bead of caulk on all areas of the container that may leak water, such as joints and seams.
Smooth the caulk with the tip of your finger to remove any excess. Allow the caulk to cure for the amount of time specified on the product's packaging before filling the container with water.
