How to Clean Washed Stone Landscaping in a Stone Garden

A stone garden, also known as a rock garden, is an outdoor area heavily landscaped with natural stone formations and stone statues or garden ornaments. Stone gardeners focus on growing plants that complement the stone garden and thrive in the natural rock landscape. Cleaning the washed stone elements in a stone garden simply requires plain water and a scrub brush.

Instructions

    • 1

Wait until spring to perform any stone maintenance in your garden, unless you live in a mild climate. The water from the washing may freeze and cause cracks in the stone if you try to wash them in the winter.

    • 2

Fill a bucket with water. Dip the scrub brush into the water and gently scrub away any accumulated dirt or moss from the surface of the washed stone.

    • 3

Repeat with each piece of stone in the garden that you want to clean.

    • 4

Rinse each piece with the garden hose.

    • 5

Connect a high pressure attachment to the end of the garden hose by screwing it over the nozzle. Aim the sprayer at any stubborn moss or lichen growths that the scrub brush could not remove. Start at the lowest pressure setting and increase the pressure until the plant material is gone.
