Instructions

  1. Plant Markers

    • 1

Wash your long wooden spoon with some mild dishwashing soap. Dry off spoon with a towel, then let it dry for another 30 minutes to ensure all moisture is gone.

    • 2

Paint the spoon a base color of your choice using acrylic latex paint. Allow paint to dry for 30 minutes, unless directed otherwise by the specific brand of paint. Add any small designs on the spoon, making sure to leave space in the center of the spoon's bowl to write. Allow all paint to dry for about an hour to ensure it is completely dry.

    • 3

Write the plant name or other wording you want in the bowl of your spoon. For example, write "Rosemary" if it is marking that herb, or write "Herbs" if you want to use your marker to mark an entire section. Spray spoon with a layer of shellac sealant and allow an hour to dry, then stick the spoon in the ground handle first in the area you wish to mark.

    Garden or Plant Border

    • 4

Measure the length of the edges of the garden that you wish to place a border around, then purchase bricks accordingly from your local hardware store. Standard bricks are eight inches in length, so one and a half bricks will accommodate one foot of your edge.

    • 5

Paint the bricks whatever color you choose using acrylic latex paint. If you plan to do designs, this may take a little more time depending on how many bricks you are working with.

    • 6

Allow paint to dry and spray each brick with a coat of shellac sealant spray. Allow to dry for one hour. Line the edges of your garden with your painted bricks in the order you choose.

    Rock Decor

    • 7

Take a walk outdoors and search for large rocks, at least the size of your fist, or larger. If you don't live in a particularly rocky area, head to your local crafts store, as most carry stones for craft projects.

    • 8

Wash and clean your rock, especially if you found it outdoors, thoroughly using some mild dish soap. If the rock is really dirty, let it soak in a soap and water mixture for a couple of hours, then rinse. Wipe off any moisture and let sit for 30 minutes to fully dry.

    • 9

Plan what you want to paint on your rock (for example, an insect like a lady bug or butterfly, rainbows, inspirational sayings, or any image or words that you want to decorate your garden with).

    • 10

Paint your design onto the rock using acrylic latex paint. Let paint dry for at least 30 minutes between coats, then let it dry for an hour once done. Spray your rock with shellac spray and let dry for an hour, then place in your garden.
