How to Edit Landscape Photos

Whether your photograph captures lines of saguaro in a bright desert or ominous clouds over a weedy garden, the images in landscape photos can tell many stories. Add to the story by editing the photograph in one of a number of different computer programs. Perform anything from slight text additions to sweeping color changes to the landscape, transforming the picture into something completely different from what was caught through the camera's lens.

Instructions

  1. Using Windows Paint

    • 1

Open Paint, click the Paint button in the top-left corner of the screen and select "Open." Browse to the landscape photo to edit, and double-click the file name. The picture opens in the Paint workspace.

    • 2

Select a colored square from the "Colors" section of the ribbon/toolbar at the top of the screen. Choose a color that will stand out against the landscape colors.

    • 3

Click the text tool, which looks like an "A" on the "Tools" section of the toolbar. Click the photo and select a font and text size.

    • 4

Type a caption for the photo, such as the place the landscape was taken or a date to archive the snapshot.

    • 5

Click the Paint button, select "Save As," and type a new name for the photo so as not to overwrite the unedited version.

    Using Adobe Photoshop

    • 6

Open Photoshop, click the "File" menu and select "Open." Navigate to the landscape picture and double-click to open it in Photoshop.

    • 7

Click the "Lasso" tool on the "Tools" pane on the left side of the screen. Draw an outline around an object in the photo, such as a palm tree or garden chair. When blinking dotted lines appear, right-click them and select "Layer via Copy."

    • 8

Drag the cursor to the left or right. A copy of the selected area appears, making a "twin" image on the picture. Position the copy in place on the image.

    • 9

Click the "Window" menu at the top of the screen. Click "Layers" to open the "Layers" palette. Click the small lines icon at the top-right of the "Layers" palette and select "Flatten Image."

    • 10

Click the "File" menu and select "Save As." Type a new name for the photo and save it to the computer.

    Using Microsoft Publisher

    • 11

Open Publisher. Click the "Blank 8.5 x 11" button in the top-left corner of the "Available Templates" screen. A blank Publisher workspace page opens.

    • 12

Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Picture" button on the ribbon/toolbar directly below the tab. Browse to the landscape picture and double-click. It opens on the page.

    • 13

Right-click the photo and select "Format Picture." The "Format Picture" window opens.

    • 14

Click the "Recolor" button in the middle of the window. Pull down the "Color" menu and click a small colored square. Click the "Leave black parts black" button for contrast in the picture and click "OK." Click "OK" again to close the "Format Picture" window and see the landscape in new color.

    • 15

Click the "File" tab at the top of the screen. Select "Save As," give the image a name and save it to the computer.
