How to Install Concrete Paver Walls

A retaining wall can be built using concrete paver stone to construct a flower bed in the front of your home. This type of wall can be added for aesthetics and is designed to contain the soil for the flowers. If you have recently installed concrete pavers, for a patio or walkway, you can use the leftover pavers to build the retaining wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate an area in the front of your home where you want the flower bed. Drive wooden stakes into the ground with the hammer and then tie string to the stakes. This will be the outline for the wall.

    • 2

Excavate a 12-inch wide by 6-inch deep hole inside the outline with the shovel. This will be the base for the wall.

    • 3

Spread pea gravel into the trench as a base for the pavers. Spread and level the pea gravel with a garden rake. The pea stone is to help with water drainage.

    • 4

Set the first row of pavers on top of the pea gravel. Place the level over every two pavers. Tap on the pavers with the rubber mallet if they are not quite level.

    • 5

Set the next row of pavers on top of the first. Offset the pavers so the joints do not line up. Check every two blocks for level. Repeat this step until you reach the desired height.
