How to Clean a Terra Cotta Flower Pot

Terra cotta flower pots are made from fired clay. They're typically red, orange or brown in color, porous and unglazed. With regular use, terra cotta pots can become dirty from soil, minerals, organisms or pesticides in the soil. Whether you're re-potting plants or painting the pots, start with clean, sanitized terra cotta pots for the best results. Make sure to soak the pots in clean water after washing them to ensure any chemicals aren't retained in the clay.
