An Inexpensive Way to Build a Border for a Flower Bed

A border gives a flower bed a clean, finished look. It shows where the flower bed ends and the lawn begins. It also works to keep grass from spreading into the flower bed. Many materials are available for creating a flower bed border, but you can use items you already have to make a simple, affordable border. A shovel and supplies from your local environment will suffice.

Instructions

    • 1

Dig a shallow trench using a spade around the edge of the flower bed. Make the trench 4 inches deep, and angle it towards the flower bed. Keep the trench even around the entire edge.

    • 2

Collect pebbles, shells or rocks. River rock works well here.

    • 3

Spread the rock in the trench until it is full.
