How to Build Planter Walls

Many home buyers are lucky enough to inherit a house with established flowerbeds that are in good condition. If you lack such display areas, however, this does not mean that you must always go without them. As long as you have a little space in your yard, a planter box can define the area that you wish to fill with flowers, shrubs or other flora. While planter boxes are available for purchase at many home stores, you can create a generous 6-foot-by-6-foot planter box wall frame yourself more cheaply.

Instructions

    • 1

Build the planter walls out of untreated 2-by-12 lumber. Cut the lumber into four pieces that are each 6 feet long. Paint the boards with latex outdoor paint and let them dry completely.

    • 2

Attach two of the boards at their ends using a metal right angle joint bracket secured with screws to form a perfect angle (or L-shape). Do the same with the remaining two boards so that you have two identical pieces.

    • 3

Put the two angled pieces together to form a perfect square. Secure the two remaining corners with right angle brackets. Your planter box walls are finished; place them around the section of ground where you wish to create a garden plot.
