How to Make a Stand for a Lightbulb Planter

Plants and flowers grow in a range of environments, from the outdoor garden to hanging baskets or countertop pots. Gardeners who want distinctive looks can grow their plants in enclosed cages and terrariums. Gardeners who have minimal space may plant very small specimens in hollowed-out light bulbs. These specialized terrarium situations present a special challenge with regard to placement because of their rounded edges. You can build a variety of "stands" for light bulb planters to hold them in place and display them.

Things You'll Need

  • Tea light
  • Twine/wire
  • Eye hooks

Instructions

    • 1

Take the candle out of a tea light. Set the tea light holder on the counter or table and rest the light bulb in the holder. Keep the bulb straight up as a small vase or turn it on its side as a planter.

    • 2

Screw eye hooks into the wall at staggered heights. Tie twine or wire around the ends of the light bulb planters and hang the twine from the eye hooks for suspended and staggered planters or vases.

    • 3

Set a large bowl on the counter or table and set several light bulb planters in the bowl to support each other. Put different color plants or flowers in each light bulb for variety.

    • 4

Build a larger stand for the light bulb planter. Bend large-gauge copper wire into a spiral formation with at least three to four loops. Spread the loops so they form a base, a middle and a top. Twist the top end of the wire around the base of the light bulb so the bulb hangs down above the copper wire base.
