Place one plank flat on a work surface. Measure and mark the plank at 48 inches using a tape measure and pencil.
Set the marked plank on the table of a miter saw. Slide the plank along the table of the saw until the pencil mark is aligned with the outside edge of the saw blade. Cut the marked plank at the 48-inch mark with the miter saw. You will now have two 48-inch long planks. These are the ends for the flower bed.
Position the two, 1-by-12-by-96-inch planks parallel to each other on a work surface with the 1-by-96-inch sides resting flat. Space the outside sides of the boards 48 inches apart. These are the sides for the flower bed.
Butt the 1-by-12-by-48-inch planks across the ends of the sides to form a rectangular assembly. The 1-by-48-inch sides should be flat against the work surface.
Drive stainless steel wood screws through the end planks into the ends of the side planks every 2 inches using a screw gun to secure the assembly together.
Unroll landscaping fabric over the top of the assembly. Trim it to fit perfectly over the assembly using an utility knife.
Staple the landscaping fabric to the top edges of the assembly every 2 inches using a staple gun equipped with 1/2-inch staples. This is the bottom of the flower bed. It will prevent weeds from growing up through the flower bed.
Turn the assembly over so that the landscape fabric covered bottom is facing down. Place the flower bed assembly in the desired location for it. Fill the assembly with potting soil.
