When creating a new garden bed, it is sometimes necessary to completely replace the existing soil. It may have been contaminated, have poor fertility or be otherwise unsuitable for successful cultivation. Calculate the volume of soil required to fill the bed by making a few measurements and doing a little math.
Measure the length and width of the planter beds in terms of feet.
Multiply the length times the width of the bed, to get the square feet of the garden bed.
Determine the depth, in terms of feet, to which the bed will be filled with soil.
Multiply the proposed depth of the feet of the soil by the total square feet of the garden bed. The answer is the total cubic feet of space in the planter bed. You will need to ensure that amount of soil will completely fill the planter bed.
