# How to Make a Cheap Greenhouse in a Day
Growing plants in your own greenhouse can be a rewarding experience for even the amateur gardener. Greenhouses can help you begin hundreds of seedlings for spring planting and save you money in the process. There are many greenhouse plans and kits you can buy, but they can cost several thousand dollars, particularly if they are large. There is a simple way to build your own large greenhouse in your backyard and spend a few hundred dollars.
Things You'll Need
- 10 x 20 foot universal canopy
- 1 roll of duct taper
- 18 ratcheting tie downs
- 38 x 30 foot UV stabilized polyethylene
- 20 squeeze clips
- 1 roll of heavy-duty clear packing tape
- 2 bags cement, optional

Choose a level spot for your greenhouse. With a friend, assemble the canopy frame per instructions. Wrap duct tape around each joint to help hold it in place.

Secure the four corners of your greenhouse by burying the poles at least 10 inches into the ground. You can cement them in for more stability.

Using a ladder to reach the peak, evenly space out the 18 ratcheting tie downs over the top of the canopy. Attach them to the horizontal bars of the canopy and tighten.

Have someone help you pull the UV stabilized polyethylene over the frame of your greenhouse. If you were unable to get a piece of 38 x 30 foot polyethylene, you can splice two pieces together using clear packing tape.

Secure the plastic to the frame using the clips. Bury the excess plastic on the sides with soil to prevent it from blowing up in a breeze.

Create a door by cutting a vertical line in the plastic on one end of the greenhouse. Tape the top end of the cut on both sides of the plastic to prevent further tearing. Use clips to tie back the two flaps of the door for ventilation or use them for clipping the two flaps together to prevent the escape of heat.
