Live Nursery for Plants & Flowers in Oregon

Live nurseries are commercial endeavors that grow species of plants and flowers and offer them for purchase. Live plant nurseries in Oregon feature many species of plants and exist for various purposes. Some specialize in the growth of plants native to the Pacific Northwest, while others cater to consumers on the prowl for woody ornamental species. Live nurseries can be found in the Oregon cities of Portland, Pleasant Hill, Aurora and Cornelius.

  1. Glenn Walters Nursery

    • Glenn Walters Nursery of Cornelius advertises itself as “Oregon’s largest woody ornamental wholesale nursery." The nursery has live plants from a number of species. Cultivars of Japanese maple such as 'Burgundy Flame', 'Bloodgood', 'Fireglow' and 'Oshio Beni' can be found at Glenn Walters. A cultivar is a strain of plant developed specifically for gardening. A number of Acer dissectum cultivars are also available. Acer dissectrum is a small, bushy, mound-forming species of Japanese maple.

      Other live species found at Glenn Walters Nursery include marigold, dwarf rhododendron, wisteria, azalea, various species of cedar and various species of fruit trees, including apple, apricot, cherry, peach, pear and plum.

    Aurora Nursery

    • Aurora Nursery is a member of the Oregon Association of Nurseries. The nursery is situated on 50 acres and specializes in native Northwest and wetland plants. Among the live species available at Aurora Nursery as of February 2011 are white fur, vine maple, big leaf maple, red alder, red twig dogwood, tufted hair grass, creeping spikerush, Oregon ash, daggerleaf rush, black cottonwood, Pacific willow and western hemlock. Aurora Nursery publishes a monthly list of all available species. This list includes the quantity of each plant available, the size of plants from each species and the month during which the plant will be ready for sale.

    Pleasant Hill Nursery

    • Pleasant Hill Nursery is a plant grower and nursery located approximately 10 miles south of Eugene in the town of Pleasant Hill. Among the live plants available through the nursery on a regular basis are groundcovers, native plants, conifers (cone-bearing plants), perennials, ferns, ornamental plants and shade plants. Pleasant Hill growers specialize in broad leaf evergreen and deciduous shrubs. The nursery lists its best-selling plants as blueberries, lavender, holly, laurels, boxwood, rhododendrons and arborvitae.

    Portland Nursery and Garden Center

    • Portland Nursery and Garden Center has two locations in Portland, each with a stock of plants. In addition to supplying live plants to the local gardening community, Portland Nursery and Garden Center offers gardening advice and tips, how-to guides, gardening classes and events. The nursery divides its available plants into categories: annuals and perennials, bonsai, fruits and berries, houseplants, northwest plants, native plants, roses, seeds and bulbs, trees and shrubs, and vegetables and herbs.
