How to Prevent Wasps in a Bird House

Wasps are awfully irritating at times, and when they create nests in unwanted places, they can become dangerous to humans, pets and animals. While preventing wasps from making nests is as simple as covering up holes they may want to enter, this option is not available when those holes are on a favorite birdhouse. There is a simple way, however, to keep the unwanted wasps away.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Soap bar (unscented)

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the birdhouse from its perch.

    • 2

Unscrew or otherwise remove the roof from the top of the birdhouse.

    • 3

Rub a bar of unscented soap all over the inside of the birdhouse so that the entire surface is covered. Apply the soap liberally, as you want the surface to become slick to prevent a wasp nest from sticking to it.

    • 4

Put the roof back on the birdhouse and return the birdhouse to its proper spot.
