Different Designs of Fences

Chain Link

• Chain link fencing is an economical maintenance-free boundary. The standard fence is 4 feet tall, but it can be built as high as 6 feet in residential settings. The gauge or the wire, end, corner and gate posts vary, as do the line and rail posts. Gates can be placed conveniently depending upon purpose, from standard to R.V. size. It can be trimmed with razor or concertina wire for added security. The lifespan of a chain link fence is 30 years.

Wood

• Wood fencing is used in residential settings. People build wooden fences to block wind and screen yards from view. There is no spacing between the boards in privacy fencing, which can be up to 8 feet in height. Picket fences offer less privacy because there are gaps between the boards. They are typically three to five feet high. Post and rail fences consist of two, three or four rails between posts and are suited to rural settings. The average lifetime of a wood fence is 20 years, and while moderately priced, they require yearly maintenance.

Vinyl

• While slightly more expensive than wood or chain link, vinyl fencing provides virtually maintenance-free security, and in terms of privacy, the same variety of styles available in wood fencing are available in vinyl. An additional benefit of vinyl is that it requires little more than yearly washing. Vinyl fencing is available in a variety of colors.

Aluminum

• Aluminum is an alternative to wrought iron. Aluminum is also a lifetime performer, requiring yearly washing to maintain its appearance. Heights and styles vary as much as the other fence types, but its price point is the highest of the four. Purchase rust and corrosion-free aluminum alloy that is powder-coated to avoid cracking, chipping or peeling. Aluminum fencing can be utilized in industrial and commercial settings.
