How to Use a Gas Powered Post Hole Digger

Gas powered post hole diggers, also known as earth augers, are integral to the fence building process. These tools are equipped with drill bits called augers that spin when the post hold digger is activated. The spinning allows the user to create round holes in the soil. Concrete is poured into the holes and fence posts are placed in the concrete. The process continues until the fence is complete. Knowing how to safely and efficiently operate a gas powered hole digger can expedite the fence building process and provide professional looking results.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure your goggles and gloves are securely on to prevent dirt or rocks from entering the eyes and to minimize hand damage from the prolonged vibration associated with the gas powered hole digger.

    • 2

Insert the power head into the auger bit drive shaft.

Align the two holes found on the end of the auger bit drive shaft with the two holes on the end of the power head. Secure the link by placing the two fixing pins into each hole and affixing the two washers to each pin.

    • 3

Locate a well vented area that is not near flames or heat.

Fill the gasoline container with 89 octane unleaded gas and 2-cycle oil, using a 50:1 gas-to-oil ratio. Close the lid on the container and thoroughly shake it to ensure that the concoction mixes properly. Pour the combination into the fuel tank of the gas powered post hole digger.

    • 4

Start the engine by setting the ignition switch to Run.

Position the choke lever to Choked and forcibly pull the starter handle back towards you, in a brisk manner.

    • 5

Tightly grip the handles of the post hole digger to control the machine.

Gently guide the auger bit into the site of the hole. Repeat this procedure until you are satisfied with the depth and size of the hole.
