DIY: Mesh Fence

Mesh fencing is both a functional and visual barrier ideal for containing pets or livestock. The weakness in mesh fencing is its flexibility, which is good in the sense that an excited animal won't be seriously hurt by running into it. However, the flexibility can cause it to sag if it is stretched too often. Installing a mesh fence is less laborious than installing a wood panel fence.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray a line on the ground with spray paint following the pattern the mesh fence will follow. This will provide a visual line to follow when erecting the mesh fence.

    • 2

Put on gloves and dig 2-foot holes about 6 to 8 inches wide with post hole diggers every 6 to 8 feet along the spray paint line.

    • 3

Roll a wheelbarrow out to where you will set the first fence post into the ground. Combine 1 part mortar with 3 parts sand in the wheelbarrow and moisten with a hose. Mix thoroughly with a hoe.

    • 4

Insert the first fence post into the hole and then dump the mortar mix into the hole, filling the hole and surrounding the fence post.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you've set every fence post. Let the mortar mix dry overnight.

    • 6

Fasten the mesh fencing to the first fence post with a hammer and nails. Stretch the mesh fencing to the next post and secure it with nails. Continue until you've fastened the mesh fencing to each post.
